Thanks for your comments. The purpose of this test was not to achieve quality surfaces, but to check how capable tha machine is with removing material. I used a broken endmill (a victim of me previous experiments). In several runs (most of runs in this experiment) I had moments when the endmill was going into low frequency high energy vibration (almost trying to move the whole machine) and it was immediately visible in accuracy of side edges. I need to repeat the runs with brand new endmill.

By the way. I am looking for some interesting test piece ideas in alu, plexi, wood. Standard "square-diamond-circle" tester is boooring.

This weekend i played a bit with engraving, v-carving, adaptive pocket clearing in anodised aluminium and wood.





In the meantime I broke two 6mm endmills - the chase for maximum MRR is still ongoing. So far this is the best I have achieved:

6mm VHM 3-flute straight endmill
12k RPM
F1800 mm/min
Ap 5,5
Ae 1,0
MRR 9,9 cm^3/min !!!

Anything faster than that (higher MRR) results in too much heat buildup and broken bits. I was successfully running at F2500mm/min with a 4-flute endmill, but the Ap was jsut 3 mm. Still - I was surprised that it could go that fast.

For the 3d smooth surface in wood I used 2mm 2flute VHM ballnose endmill and passes with 0,2mm stepover (that after first running adaptive clearing with 4mm 2-flute HSS, leaving just about ~0,5 mm steps for finishing). Took some time thou...

Leuke video's! Ik vind de compacte hall effect sensoren ook een leuk idee. Hebben die een voordeel t.o.v. inductieve sensoren? En heb je de as van stappenmotoren zelf vervangen met trapeziumdraad?

Deze hall-effectsensoren zijn vrij goedkoop, ongeveer 7 euro per stuk, en erg klein. Ik bereikte een zeer goede herhaalbaarheid, op micrometerniveau.

Ik kocht de motoren onmiddellijk met een trapeziumschroef. Ik heb er één uit elkaar gehaald om te kijken hoe het er van binnen uitzag. De schroef lijkt gevuld te zijn met wat hars in de rotor. Ik heb alleen de schroeven op maat ingekort.
